RIYADH: The US special envoy to Yemen has again expressed Washington’s concern over the “devastating humanitarian consequences” of the Houthi militia’s offensive in Marib. Tim Lenderking was speaking during a meeting with Marib Governor Sultan Al-Arada, that was also attended by Cathy Westley, chargé d’affaires for the US Embassy to Yemen, the State Department said.

After four deadlocked general elections in two years and the daunting prospect of a fifth, Israeli politicians are on the verge of forming a coalition government that will bring an end to 12 years of often controversial rule by Benjamin Netanyahu. On Sunday, the head of the ultranationalist Yamina alliance, former Defense Minister Naftali Bennett, who has been dubbed the kingmaker, announced that he had received the backing of the six elected members of his party to form a coalition government with Yesh Atid party head Yair Lapid, who is the one with the presidential mandate, which expires at midnight on Wednesday.
MOSCOW: A Belarusian political activist stabbed himself in the neck on the first day of his trial Tuesday and was rushed to hospital, a rights group said.
Viasna, an independent rights group monitoring the trial of Stepan Latypov, said it believed the activist had tried to commit suicide following pressure in detention.
Thousands of opposition activists and protesters have been arrested and gone on trial in a harsh crackdown on anti-government demonstrations that erupted last year.
Latypov, 41, was detained in September and went on trial in the capital Minsk on Tuesday on multiple charges including creating protest symbols and resisting law enforcement.
